Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
It is popularly known as toy train. It is one of the main attractions and best hill railway in India . The track on which the train runs is only 600 millimeters wide which was made in 1881. Narrow Gauge trains are used in India to travel to hill stations. UNESCO has declared the DHR as a World Heritage Site. The toy train approximately takes 8 hrs to reach. As per Guiness Railway Book referred to this train journey as one of the most spectacular in the world. The engineering excellence of the train route and during journey the valleys, lush green forests and tea gardens and other thing are visible while traveling to Darjeeling from Siliguri. The omnipresence of mighty Kanchenjunga Peak is felt everywhere in this hill station.

The Mall
The Chowrasta or the Mall is the heart of Darjeeling town. Located on top of Nehru Road, this is a nice flat land where tourists and locals come to lounge in the sun, take a seat on one of the many benches along the periphery, and watch the wonderful views of the mountain peaks and valleys all around and take the pony ride around the Mall. The Brabourne Park is attached to the Chowrasta and now features a musical fountain. This place is an open space and free from vehicular movements.

Chowrasta & Mall

The Chowrasta or the Mall in Darjeeling can be reached through different roads. The most popular is the Nehru Road that starts from Gandhi Road where the restaurant Keventer's is located.
From Darjeeling Railway Station the Mall (Chowrasta) is about 2.5 km and it's an uphill walk (will take about 35-40 minutes). From Hill Cart Road (at Darjeeling station) take Laden la Road and then Nehru Road to reach the mall. 
It takes about 5-7 minutes by walk. Taxis are not allowed in the Mall area. Taxis can only come up to the stand near the junction of Nehru road and Gandhi road, or up to the Windamere hotel on the Mall road from where it would be a shorter and easier walk to the Mall.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra.

Tiger Hill
Situated at an altitude of 2590 meters and 13 km from the town, this spot has earned international fame for the magnificent view of the sunrise over "Kanchenjunga" and the great Eastern Himalayan Mountains. Even Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, is also visible from here.

Tiger Hill

It is 11 km (6.8 miles) from the town of Darjeeling Tiger Hills and can be easily accessed through roadways from Darjeeling. After the Ghoom station, it can be reached either by jeep or by foot through Chowrasta, Alubari or Jorebangla and then climbing up the incline to the summit. you will need to take the narrow uphill Senchal road on the right. It takes about 40 minutes from Darjeeling town to reach to the summit by car.
Hired car or a shared jeep from the club side taxi stand at the base of Nehru Road below the Mall and tax from Chowk Bazaar area is also available.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra.

Shanti Stupa
Japanese Peace Pagoda is located on the slopes of the Jalapahar Hill the pagoda can be reached by foot or on taxi. The Shanti Stupa was established by Nipponzan Myohoji, a Japanese Buddhist order. It also showcases the four avatars of the Buddha.
This stupa was constructed during 1972-1992. There is a buddha temple and a pillar. After the temple there is the beautiful stupa (Pagoda). The stupa is located at significant height and beautiful views of the surroundings and mount Kanchanjunga is visible from here. This is one of the best places to visit in Darjeeling.

Shanti Stupa

The Shanti Stupa was established by Nipponzan Myohoji, a Japanese Buddhist order. Situated on the slopes of the Jalapahar Hill the pagoda can be reached by foot or on taxi. The pagoda is the highest free structure in the town. It also showcases the four avatars of the Buddha.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra.
By Train: The nearest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri.
By Road: Japanese Peace Pagoda is located on the top of an elevation and therefore needs a lot of climbing (from Darjeeling bus stand) to reach there. Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda are located at the Jalapahar hill area. It's about 10 minutes by car from the center of the Darjeeling town.

Batasia Loop
Railway Loop is feat of engineering 5 kms from Darjeeling, is a marvellous feat of engineering. It is fascinating to watch the toy train round the loop. Tahe town and glorious view of snowy peak can be seen from here. The War Memorial constructed in the memory of brave sons of Darjeeling who died in different wars since 1947.

Batasia Loop

By Road: It is 5 km (3.1 miles) from Darjeeling Town located just below Ghoom station. If You take a car or a taxi, it takes about 20 minutes from Darjeeling town to reach the Batasia Loop (along Hill Cart Road).
It falls on railway route by the Toy Train from Siliguri to Darjeeling and 2 km northeast of Ghoom Railway Station. There is a brief halt of 10 minutes at the Batasia Loop on its way up to Darjeeling.
Nearest Railway Station to Batasia Loop: Ghoom Railway Station (2 km).
Nearest Bus stand and Jeep stand to reach Batasia loop: outside Ghoom Railway Station (2 km).

By Train: The nearest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri

GHOOM
Ghoom is a small hilly locality in the Darjeeling Himalayan hill region of West Bengal. Ghoom railway station of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is the highest railway station in India. It is situated at an altitude of 2,258 mtrs (7,407 ft). The place is the home of the Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop, a bend of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.

Ghoom

Ghoom is about 7km from Darjeeling town and located at an altitude of about 7,407ft. (or 2,226 meters). Trains from major cities of country to Darjeeling are available. State and private buses and jeeps from Siliguri which ply to Darjeeling.

Toy-Train in Siliguri and get off either at the Ghoom Railway Station or the Darjeeling Railway Station and take a jeep from there. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the monastery by car from Darjeeling town center. Before Ghoom railway station and on the Hill Cart Road (the main road that goes all the way to Siliguri), you will need to take a right turn into a narrow road.
